Why We Chose West Chester: Building Community One Cup at a Time

Hey beautiful people!

You know, people ask me all the time - "Why West Chester? Why this spot? Why here?" And honestly, the answer gets more beautiful every single day we're open.

It Started with a Feeling

When I was looking for the perfect place to bring Coterie to life, I wasn't just looking for four walls and good foot traffic (though let's be real, those matter too). I was looking for a community that would get it - that would understand what we were trying to create and maybe even help us create it.

West Chester had this energy that I couldn't ignore. Walking down Cincinnati Dayton Road, you could feel it - this mix of small-town heart with big-city dreams. Families pushing strollers, professionals grabbing coffee between meetings, neighbors actually talking to each other instead of staring at their phones. It felt like home before we even signed the lease. When we did sign the lease, my landlords already felt like family too! I knew I was in good (Hi Diane! Hi Roger!)

The Community That Welcomed Us

From day one, West Chester didn't just tolerate us - they embraced us. The West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance has been absolutely incredible to work with. They didn't see us as just another new business trying to make it; they saw us as part of the fabric they were helping to weave in this community. Their support has meant everything to a small business owner trying to figure it out as she goes.

But it's not just the official partnerships that make this place special. It's the way our neighbors became our customers, and our customers became our friends. It's the local families who've made Sunday brunch at Coterie their weekly tradition. It's the small business owners who choose our community room for their team meetings because they want to support local while they strategize.

The Parking Plot Twist (AKA Our One "Oops" Moment)

Okay, let's address the elephant in the room - or should I say, the cars in the... well, that's the problem, isn't it? 😅

Look, I'll be the first to admit our parking situation isn't exactly what you'd call "ideal." When we fell in love with this space, we were so focused on the community vibes and perfect layout that we maybe, possibly, slightly underestimated how much West Chester folks love their cars. (Can you blame us? We were thinking with our hearts, not our parking meters!)

But here's where the West Chester magic kicks in again - the absolutely wonderful people at Raymond James have graciously allowed us to use overflow parking behind their building. I know, I know, it means a little walk across the street, and I see those faces when you realize you have to trek a whole 50 yards to get your latte fix.

But can we get some perspective here? If we were downtown Cincinnati, you'd happily park five blocks away AND pay $15 for the privilege! Here, you get a free mini-stroll, a chance to wave at your neighbors, and maybe even work off that scone you're about to devour. Plus, think of it as the universe's way of making you earn that perfect coffee - it tastes better when you've worked for it, right?

In all seriousness, we're so grateful to Raymond James for being the kind of neighbors who understand what community support looks like. It's just another example of how West Chester businesses lift each other up instead of making things harder.

So next time you're doing the "parking shuffle," just remember - you're not just walking to get coffee, you're participating in the beautiful dance of small-town collaboration. And hey, at least you're getting your steps in!

More Than Just Geography

Here's what I've learned about West Chester in our year and change of being here - this isn't just a place people live, it's a place people choose to build their lives. And that intention shows up everywhere. In the way people linger over their coffee to have real conversations. In how they celebrate each other's wins and show up during the hard times. In the way they've made space for a slightly chaotic Dominican American woman with big dreams and even bigger coffee ambitions.

We've got regulars who've been coming since our first week - they've watched us figure out our rhythm, cheered us through our growing pains, and become genuine friends along the way. That Tuesday morning group I mentioned in my last post? They didn't just find a table at Coterie; they found their people, their safe space, their weekly dose of community connection.

The Ripple Effect

What I love most about being part of West Chester is how collaboration feels natural here. We're not competing with other local businesses - we're all lifting each other up. When someone asks for restaurant recommendations, we're quick to suggest our neighbors. When local events need support, we show up. When other business owners need a space to meet or brainstorm, our community room is ready.

This collaborative spirit is everywhere you look. Instead of fighting over customers, we're all working together to create experiences that celebrate what makes each of our spaces special. We're showing people that supporting local isn't just about one transaction - it's about investing in the whole community.

Building Something Bigger

Every morning when I unlock our doors, I'm reminded that we're not just serving coffee and cutting hair. We're creating gathering spaces. We're fostering connections. We're giving people a reason to slow down, look up from their screens, and remember what community feels like.

West Chester gets that. This community understands that small businesses aren't just about profit margins and foot traffic - we're about creating spaces where life happens. Where first dates turn into engagements, where business ideas become reality, where strangers become friends over shared tables and really good lattes.

The Future Looks Bright

As we continue growing (and trust me, we're just getting started), I can't imagine doing it anywhere else. West Chester has given us the foundation to dream bigger, the community to support those dreams, and the reminder that success isn't just about what you build - it's about who you build it with.

So, to everyone in West Chester who's supported us, celebrated with us, and helped us become part of this incredible community - thank you. You've made Coterie more than just a business. You've made it home.

And to anyone thinking about visiting us for the first time, know this - you're not just walking into a cafe and salon. You're walking into a community that's been waiting for you. West Chester has this beautiful way of making everyone feel like they belong, and we're honored to be part of that magic.

Come as you are, stay as long as you'd like, and let West Chester work its community magic on you too.

With love and local pride,

Ghiovanna ✨

P.S. - If you're a West Chester local reading this, thank you for making our dreams possible. If you're not local yet, what are you waiting for? This community has room for everyone.
